ELLY HAYS Book Tour – Video Trailer Debut

Worldwide debut of the ELLY HAYS video trailer!!

elly cover_webAs the War of 1812 approached, the Creek Indian Nation was in the middle of a civil war. They fought brutally between themselves, as well as with the white settlers who were encroaching upon tribal land.

It was during this time Elly’s family moved to the eastern Mississippi Territory for the promise of low-cost land and fertile soil. She had no idea they were moving into Creek territory – into the middle of a hornet’s nest.

Tafv’s band of warriors taunted them, stealing their property, killing their animals, and destroying their livelihood. Just when the family thought things couldn’t get any worse, during one of the Indian raids as Elly’s husband chased the Indians away from the farm, Tafv’s young son was killed in the pursuit. Tafv vowed revenge against Elly’s family, and a final showdown was imminent.

Elly Hays is based on the real-life story of Elizabeth Hays Rodgers and is the epic clash between a fearless warrior with nothing to lose and a young mother on the verge of losing everything.

ELLY HAYS online book tour

elly cover_webI’m sooooo very excited about my new book, ELLY HAYS. Elly was one of my ancestors, my 5th great grandmother, and I loved writing her story.

The tale takes place during the War of 1812 in the Mississippi Territory, a place we now call Alabama. She was a strong and amazingly courageous woman. I’m not going to give the story away here, as you’ll hear more about it over the next two weeks. I’m just here to announce the Elly Hays book tour will begin tomorrow!

Call for Indie Authors!!

twitter-chat-tree-11This blog is for my Indie Author friends….

I am releasing a new book ELLY HAYS on Nov 4 and doing an online book tour. The last day of the tour, Saturday Nov 16, I am hosting a Twitter Chat called “From Concept to Published!” As I’m sure you do also, I have tons of family and friends who always ask me how to go about publishing a book. Instead of spending hours telling them, I figured we’d just Twitter about the basics.

I’ve invited my book designer to join us and would love it if any of you would also join. I’m already promoting the event and will continue to do so through Nov 16th!

I’m going to ask basic writing/publishing questions like:

“Let’s start with concept: Where do your book ideas come from?”

“How long does it take you to write a book? Concept to published.”

“Do you use outside help? Beta readers? Editor? Cover designer?”

I’ll also ask at the beginning for all authors to tell us their titles and genres. And at the end, ask all authors to post a link where our guest can find them.

If you would like to join me, please email me at LoriCraneAuthor@gmail.com and I’ll email you all the questions, so you’ll be able to figure out answers using “140 spaces or less.” Of course, as our guests ask questions too, ours may be thrown out the window. Wing it!

The Twitter Chat is Saturday Nov 16, 4-5pm Eastern. I suggest using http://tweetchat.com/ which is real-time Twitter that you don’t need to repeatedly put in the hashtag with every comment. The hashtag I’m using is the name of my new book – #ellyhays.

I’m going to limit participating authors to six, as we only have an hour, and it will be too crazy if thirty authors are answering questions. Be one of the first six to email me and lock in your spot! Of course, everyone is welcome to attend the event.

PLEASE JOIN ME! IT’LL BE FUN! (and it’ll be FREE book promotion, which is one of our favorite things.)

Wednesday Writer’s Corner – Swag-o-Rama

Swag Swag Swag!!! I love Swag!!!

What is Swag, you ask? It’s STUFF. Junk, really. But cool junk!

In planning my Nov 4th online book release party and my Nov 4-16 virtual book tour for my new book “Elly Hays,” I’ve lost my mind looking at swag to give away to lucky winners at the events. And, I must admit, I want to keep it all for myself.

My amazing book designer sent me a FREE bookmark file, which I uploaded to Overnight Prints, and for less than the price of a grande mocha cappuccino, I ordered bookmarks.

My designer is amazing! I love this! BTW, he’s working on a new website which I have misgivings about. I want to tell the world about him, but I’d much rather keep him to myself. Writers are possessive of their designers and their editors. Don’t even think about asking me for her number.

Anyway, back to Swag. There is an Etsy site called “The Book Swag Shop” with nothing but Swag – check it out here. She makes custom mini book charms, buttons, charm bracelets, potion bottles, just about everything cool you can think of. OMG, I’m more excited about the Swag than the book! 🙂 It’s all about the Swag!

Virtual Book Tours! YAY!!

(Photo from workingwritersclub.com)

Even if you’re published, publishers don’t support book tours anymore. So, a writer is left with two options: 1) schedule events and signings yourself or 2) do a virtual tour. Either way is a lot of work, but the virtual tour is far less expensive. I’m putting together a November tour for my coming release “Elly Hays,” so I’ve been doing tons of research and organizing it myself. I decided to do a fall tour because I notice a huge spike in sales following holidays. I assume it’s because of word-of-mouth at family gatherings, so I want to get the book in a lot of reader’s hands before Thanksgiving. That’s my theory anyway.

So, here’s what I’ve learned about Virtual Book Tours:

Preparedness, Organization, and Communication are the most important points.

Prepare all of your blogs, interviews, excerpts, links, media kits, photos, etc., far in advance.

Organize your items in folders on your computer, along with host information, schedule, etc. You need this all in one place. Excel spread sheet, anyone?

Communication with your hosts is key. Make a folder to keep all correspondence. Invitation, Follow up, Confirmation, Reminder, and Final Thank You.

I guess the next step is to be WAY ahead of yourself. Give yourself at least two months to plan.

Set up an account to do a giveaway. Rafflecopter is awesome.

Consider offering an end-of-tour Twitter Chat on one day for one hour with a specific hashtag. Announce it throughout the tour.

Have some crafty photo-shop-type person make you a banner.

Promote Promote Promote before during and after!!!!!

As I mentioned before, I’m setting up a tour for November 4-16. If you have room for me on your blog, please let me know, and I’ll put together whatever type of post you’d like to feature. Email me at loricraneauthor@gmail.com and we’ll choose a date and content. If you’d like to do a review, I can supply you with a free paperback, Kindle, or Nook.
